MINCORP’S LOW INTENSITY
TYPE A AND TYPE B OBSTRUCTION LIGHTS
(ALSO CALLED OBSTACLE/NAVIGATION/AVIATION WARNING LIGHTS)
The Mincorp Type A and Type B low intensity obstruction lights comply with the recommendations of the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO) and are approved by the South African Civil Aviation Authority (SACAA).
Mincorp obstruction lights with the E27 lamp holder can be used as either Type A or Type B lights, because the only factor that would differentiate these lights is the lamp that is used in them. Type A lights use Compact Fluorescent Lamps (CFL) and Type B lights use the Mincorp LED lamps. Existing sites that are fitted with Mincorp obstruction lights that have E27 lamp holders can be upgraded from Type A to Type B lights by simply changing the CFL to a Mincorp LED lamp. Furthermore, lights that have E27 lampholders can be used for both AC and DC applications provided that the LED lamps are used.
Type A Obstruction Light (>10cd) with Compact Fluorescent Lamp (“CFL”) – Low Intensity | |
Type B Obstruction Light (>32cd) with LED Lamp – Low Intensity |
ICAO requires Type A low intensity obstruction lights to have a light intensity of >10 candela and Type B low intensity obstruction lights to have a light intensity of >32candela.
The Mincorp obstruction lights, whether single or double, can thus be categorized as follows:
Type | Lampholder | Light Intensity | Voltage | Lamp Used |
A | E27 | >10 candela | 230V AC | 20W CFL |
B | E27 | >32 candela | 230V AC 48V DC 24V DC | LED |
